King of Country Music
Sometime after midnight on
Christmas Eve
My steps had begun to
stutter and to weave
I was tired of being by
myself and all alone
So I turned on the radio
to my favorite station
No need to do
any kind of investigation
There was solid gold
from the late George Jones
So I sat down in my comfy easy chair
And I knew that golden voice so fair
He was singing about that Grand Tour
So, I closed my eyes and settled back
And thought about a little snack
While the Possum sung sweet and pure
I have to tell you all the gospel truth
And I don’t think I have to offer proof
That there has never been one like him
To ever grace the Grand Ole Opry house
No not one from a gentleman to a louse
There’ll never be another one ever again
Chorus:
Yes,
the possum is the King of Country Music
His
memory is alive and well today
And
nothing stops me from believin’
And
though my heart is grievin’
Ole
George is still the King of Country Music
Thank
God for lettin’ him pass this way
From He Stopped Loving Her Today
Or Someone Wants Me Out of the Way
The hits just kept pouring out from him
From his perfectly combed blond hair
Down to the boots that he’d always wear
We’ll never see the likes of him again
There is no one that could fill his shoes
No one will ever sing with such blues
He is the King of Country music, right
Nancy shared him with all of his fans
He is missed at all those midnight jams
Maybe George can say, Well It’s Alright
He charted over 165 golden hits
We all hoped he wouldn’t call it quits
But I guess everyone must go away
And it just might be the right thing to do
Since no one will ever stop loving you
I’ll just hum a bit of He Stopped Loving Her
Today
Chorus:
Yes, the possum is the King of Country Music
His
memory is alive and well today
And
nothing stops me from believin’
And
though my heart is grievin’
Ole
George is still the King of Country Music
Thank
God for lettin’ him pass this way
Repeat Chorus:
Yes, the possum is the King of Country Music
His memory is alive and well today
And nothing stops me from believin’
And though my heart is grievin’
Ole George is still the King of Country Music
Thank God for lettin’ him pass this way

A great tribute to George Gregg, I did wonder if he would appear in your A to Z. ........only one thing missing.....Danny Boy..lol
Yvonne.
I take back my "free pass" regarding idolatry that you mentioned. Not that this is really idolatry, per se, but it's just.....ew, country music. :)
Yvonne - you know me well, I just had to work George in somehow. thanks for your comment. I have a couple letters left, maybe I can do some for Danny boy!
Scott - that according to per se it is not idolatry. I am glad that "he, per se" saw it this way. But yes, it is country to the core.
I'm not very knowledgeable about country music, I must admit. Thank you of the education. Visiting from A to Z. Maria@Delight Directed Living
