"Lucy, you got some 'splaining to do!"

We all remember, well, maybe I should say, most of us, all remember I Love Lucy. Lucy Ricardo was such a zany character. Even for primitive and early pioneering the I Love Lucy Show was in my opinion borderline genius.

It was such a hit that on January 19, 1953 for the episode entitled Lucy goes to the Hospital, more people tuned in and watched that episode than the inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower which aired the following day.

Can you believe it? Forty-four million people or 72% of the viewing public watched Lucy "give birth" to Little Ricky. What many people do not know is that Lucy gave birth to Desi Arnaz, Jr. that very day. Many people think Little Ricky and Desi Arnaz, Jr. were the same baby and little boy, however they were not. Little Ricky was played by twins Joe and Mike Mayer, Richard and Ronald Simmons, and Keith Thibodeaux.

Well, I have a character that I love as much as the public loved Lucille Ball, oops I mean Lucy Esmeralda McGillicutty Ricardo. I love Luke. Yes, the Gentile physician and historian that wrote almost two thirds of the New Testament with his two volume set The Gospel According to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles.

Luke has always fascinated me. He was a trained doctor. His writings show him to be very compassionate and generally interested in people. He left his practice for reasons that are totally unknown to us to travel with a dynamic, diminutive, displaced, and determined Jewish Pharisee turned Christ follower. He suffered imprisonment, shipwreck, hardship, and persecution along with Paul and other companions. What causes me to love him the most I think are these words dictated by Paul, "Only Luke is with me." When Paul was in the Mamertine Prison facing execution at any moment and all alone with no one standing by him as the end drew near, Luke was standing by his side. God give me a man like Luke to stand with me through thick and thin, peace and persecution, valley and mountain top and I will charge the gates of hell.

David fascinates me. He was seriously flawed and sinful, but God loved him and he love God. I would love to be called a man (woman) after God's own heart.

I would like to sit down with David, hear him play some of his psalms on the stringed instrument, and tell of his life, his ups and downs and how God was merciful to him through it all.

God's faithfulness to David gives me hope.

Hi Pastor Gregg,

Like Ma above, David is one of my favorites for the same reasons she mentions. He wrote the psalms, which all of us can relate to because of the hardships we encounter in our lives. David went through so much hardship, but God showed himself faithful. You learn a lot about the Lord when studying the life of David.

However, for now my favorite character is Joseph. I can relate to him in my current circumstances. I feel like I'm in a prison, but at the right time the Lord will release me and exalt me to a high position. Joseph was amazing in how he forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery, and he had great endurance and perseverance, while falsely accused and spending a number of years in prison.

But the Lord was with Joseph and gave him great favor wherever he was. And I know that the Lord is giving me great favor where I am right now.

Blessings,
Judy

My favorite is James, the brother of Jesus. He is so black/white in his writings, but I often wonder what life was like for him. His brother was the SAVIOUR of our WORLD! James walked with Him. He talked with Him. And James' words just pierce my heart when I need it the most. I would love to sit and chat with him, discovering his inner-most thoughts. His words are so full of passion. Did he have a gentle spirit or was he loud like me? Did he feel he was living in the shadow of his brother, or did he truly feel blessed just to lift up the name as he brought others to salvation?

Fabulous post, Gregg! Can't wait to read all the commentary! Happy Friday! :o)

I think I will have to say Noah with all those animals, I'd be satisfied with one but the owner of my apartment don't allow animals.

Have a good week-end.

Keith Thibodeaux went on to play with the Christian rock group David and the Giants. They were a pretty good group. I went to see them in concert one time in the eighties in a high school auditorium in Loudon, TN.

Favorite Bible character?
I like your answer and those of the other commenters. There are so many interesting people in the Bible.
Let me go with Solomon. He is sometimes credited with being the wisest man who ever lived, but it seems like he sure messed up a lot.

In Ecclesiastes he seems so disillusioned with the world and his life--even after having so much--and he just gets back to the basics. I'd like to hear him speak about all that he learned and ask advice about things.

I like Samson, yes thats right i said Samson, a brutish man who in his own clumsy way tries to serve the Lord his God, much like me without the strenght. he is over come but in the end he prevails, praise be to God our father, and this is Lord willing what I will do as well.
