What Do You Think?

What is the believer's greatest need?

****************************************************
30 Days of Thanksgiving

I am thankful for the privilege of prayer. David said on more than one occasion that we can pour our hearts out to God. Jesus said to ask. Even James when he gave reasons why the prayers of the Jewish Christians that he wrote to did not receive answers to their prayers implies they prayed. I thank God that He in His infinite wisdom brings me and my prayers in line with His sovereign purpose thereby causing Him to answer them. Thank you Lord for the privilege of coming to you as my heavenly Father in order to make my requests known unto God!

I believe the believer's greatest need is the gospel. It may sound trite, but the gospel is not just for "getting saved". The gospel is for the Christian couple stuggling with divorce; it's for the Christian teenager contemplating suicide; it's for the Christian in the midst of a crisis of faith; it's for the Christian alcoholic, the Christian spouse abuser, the Christian addict. We need the gospel!

I agree with Mike. Believer's need the gospel just as much as those who have not heard the good news.

I think I could provide various answers, but right now I feel that humility is the greatest need.

The ability to stamp out sinful pride is the first step in walking with the Lord IMO.

This is a good issue Gregg, I think self pride is not a good thing yet one can be proud of one's achievemnets without being boastful.

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? -Micah 6:8 ESV

Mike - The gospel is certainly a great need. You are right the gospel is not just for the lost. The problem is the average believer does not know why they need the gospel or how to appropriate it for their growth. Come back tomorrow and read tomorrow's post and see if we are close to saying the same thing. Thanks for reading and commenting, it means a lot to me.

Persis - thanks for commenting. Please see my reply to Mike and check back tomorrow.

JD Curtis - We all could have written a list a mile long. Humility is absolutely a great need. I work on that all the time. Your opinion is great! Come back tomorrow and see if we are on the same page. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Yvonne - It is a good question. Come back tomorrow and see the answer. Thanks for reading and commenting, you are also so kind and so consistent! Thanks.

Kansas Bob - Not bad. That certainly is a great goal, command, duty, direction - but not what I was thinking. Could be the same with some tweaking. Come back tomorrow and see what the answer is. Thanks for reading and commenting. I truly appreciate it.

The believers greatest "need" is to be conformed into the image of Christ.

The believers greatest need is to have the Holy Spirit. This allows us to know God and to most aptly apply that knowledge. Without the Holy Spirit to guide us, we are so apt to be blown about by any wind of theology. Jesus knew what he was doing when he told his disciples to wait for the Spirit.

2nd greatest need is to yield to the HS!

Since being a believer to me would entail having faith, being saved thru Jesus Christ, and being in communion with the Holy Spirit; I would also go with the Word of God since it is like the instruction manual and provides the reference to inform, the guidance to direct, and the support to seek comfort.

Gregg, I feel that the greatest need for a Christian is Faith. Every day the ways of the world try his faith. Faith also goes along with love which leads to God's purpose for the scriptures, to give us guidance and direction, to allow us to grow more like Christ in our thoughts, actions and deeds.
