Stylish Adult Baptism? Really?

I am still struggling for words. No, I am not shocked or surprised, I am deeply grieved. True believers know that baptism is a very special, important, and awesome ordinance commanded by our Lord. It is the very first step that a brand new believer takes immediately after being regenerated by the Holy Spirit. It is a means of identification with our Lord Jesus Christ as our baptism depicts our death in Christ, our burial, and our resurrection in Christ to walk a new or renewed life.

The church is charged with making disciples by preaching the gospel to every creature and then baptizing the new creature in Christ. As a matter of fact baptism preceeds teaching and discipling. A new convert is not even discipled until they have been baptized.

To turn such a wonderful ordinance of God into "an elegant affair" is pure mockery. What would those untold believers who were tortued and killed as a result of being baptized to identify with their Lord? Where was "Leslie, from Big Rich, Texas" when someone was needed to plan an "elegant adult burning at the stake?"

"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is eight persons were brought safely through the water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is a the right hand of God, with angels, authorities and powers having been subjected to him." (I Peter 3:18-22, ESV)

Words escape me! The only one that I can think of after watching that video is "crass".

Thank you! I was speechless also, now I know what to say!

Is this a parody or for real? If it's for real, you're right. Words fail.

I think it is taking the modern world too far, some things such as Baptism and Marriages should be how they were intended to be. Words fail me also.

@ Persis - it is real. She comments on a number of ideas.

Pardon me, due to the absence of Protestantism in postmodern society; one fails to see that this is Jewish. It helps when you stand upon the anti-Judaic pillar that great-grandpa once knew.

@ Mr. Mcgranor - I am sorry, but I don't have a clue as to what you said or meant. Could you clarify?

Mr. Metcalf, we of --reactionary-- faith, uphold a cross so bigoted as to distinguish between Judaism and Christianity. Also realizing the distinct character of a Jew versus a Protestant.

I know this reads wrong to the postmodern. But, we who are not postmodern in our perspective; surely know our place, and will have the Church again when it is all said and done.
