Are You Drinking From the Ocean?

"The enjoyment of [God] is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams. But God is the ocean."

— Jonathan Edwards

Great quote. May the things of this earth continue to grow dim in the light of His glory and grace.

Every century had one or two great preachers. Most great preachers seem to be from the past.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)
Martin Luther (1483-1546)
John Wesley (1703-1791)
George Whitefield (1714-1770)
John Calvin (1509-1564)
Alexander Maclaren (1826-1910)
Philips Brooks (1835-1893)
John Knox (1523-1572)
Richard Baxter (1615-1691)
Donald Grey Barnhouse (1895 –1960)
John Fullerton MacArthur, Jr. (1939- )

Where are the great preachers of the 21st century?

Is God the elephant in the dark room of unbelief? May His light shine in the darkness through us.
Many more and more find the loving mercy & grace of god in Christ.

Yvonne - glad you enjoyed it. Edwards is known to be hard to read.

PM - it is a great quote. Yes, that is a great song - may things grow dim in the light of his glorious Word.

OG - I don't know where they are. Some of us little guys are around faithfully proclaiming the word. When James Boice died MacArthur said that was God's judgment on this nation. I wonder what and how MacArthur's death will affect this nation.

Brian Ray Todd - Yes, we need to preach the clear gospel to every creature. It is the power of God unto salvation!
