Gregg, this statement is older than Michael Scott Horton. I heard it from the pulpit when Michael was still trying to escape his playpen. I am not sure of the origin (and many have used this quote) but Horton's first book, The Agony of Deceit, came out in 1990 and I remember hearing this back in the late 60's.
In other words we don't find God because we are not looking for Him, but instead are looking for something else. God is there, but we try to somehow elude Him in order to do our dastardly deeds.
Just because we are doing something undercover, in the dark of the night, or away from the eyes of others doesn't mean that we have somehow tricked God and escaped the consequence of our evil deeds.
Most of humanity is on the wrong side and continue through their lives rejecting truth.
Got it. That is exactly what it means. But your average Arminian or seeker sensitive seems to think that people are looking for God. No one, apart from the working of God through His HS is looking for the God of the Bible.!

We might fool some of the people some of the time, but we can never pull one over God. God is there with us even if we aren't there with Him.

Arlee - You are always clear to me, but this time I don't know what you meant. For the first time I think I don't understand what you meant to say?
Eddie - bummer it is so old. It is new to me. Old or not, I still appreciate what it conveys. Thanks for the history lesson!

That's the way I see it at least.

LOL, I know that we all agree that it is impossible for a Calvinist to find God.
KC...that's a good one!
