Life Goals: What's Yours?

"The heart of man plans his way, but the
Lord establishes his steps." (Proverbs 16:9, ESV)

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says, "...fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, with every secret thing, whether good or evil." (ESV)

It seems that God has given man the ability and freedom to choose what we want to do. God allows us to make plans as long as they don't violate His revealed and known moral will and we keep His commandments while we plan and work out our plans. We can't forget the warning that Solomon gave in conjunction with this freedom.

So, having said these things - what is your life's goal?

I used to have a lot of goals in life, in fact when I was 18 I made a list of things to accomplish in my life. I accomplished all of them by 27: education, success, wealth, house, etc. Unfortunately, I hadn't planned beyond that. Besides they didn't make me as happy as I thought they would; in fact they made me into a horrible person. At 28 I met Jesus Christ, and now 5 years later, I'm comfortable letting Him set goals for my life and following where He leads me.

To stand before God one day with my family in tow and hear, "Well, done, Michael. Well done."

(I wonder if I could get a progress report...)

To glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Ok, someone else wrote that. But it still defines my goal. Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. As long as that's our goal, all the other goals fall into their right place.

Long term: To live in such a way that God would glorify him self in and thru my life.

short term: to take the steps that are my responcability to take so the long term goal can happen, Lord willing.

My life's goal, to stay in children's ministry as long as God keeps me alive and to not be swayed by little pay, adversity, or people thinking that I'm immature. And that is a hard goal but I need to remember to rely on God to keep me going.

My mission statement hasn't changed much since I penned it in the early 90s. Even so, the way that I have lived it out has been different since I have learned to live from my heart.
