Worthless Worm Was I
(Gregg Metcalf)
June 3, 2011
Once A Sinner, Now Saved by Grace
Made A Slave to the end of the Race
Broken and Blind by Sin's full domain
Given new life, utterly freed by His Name
The curtain a wall did so verily make
worthless worm was I with perishing fate
Alas, was the curtain torn in two by His blood;
was forgiveness now mine like a raging flood?
His child I am, never to be bound again
entangled-entombed by chains of sin
A new name He has given to call me one day
now that grace has found this weary clay
Amazing Grace did John Newton find
erasing the pain and soothing his mind
His soul renewed, safe in a heavenly niche
awaiting the bridegroom looking towards the east
Made an heir of the King and jointly with the Son
basking in grace until this earthly race is done

This was so good to read, thans for sharing.

Great poem! For some reason "worm theology" is not taught much in our churches nowadays.
Congrats to your parents! :-)
Wonderful poem. It would indeed go to music nicely.
Catching up today from Chicago Gregg. Love the poem. Reading several of your posts helps me see your love for the Lord and his word. And congrats on 750 posts!
It takes "such a worm as I" to know one. Enjoyed your poem-- thanks for sharing it.
That's great, Gregg!
The Lord could come to the place where - prophetically - he could say, "I am a worm, an no man" so that we could have these blessings.
Amen Gregg! Give me worm theology any day, with pictures! Yes, congrats to parents 58th.
