Did That Man Really Use to be Me?

DID THAT MAN REALLY
USE TO BE ME?

Last night I sat by the fire with my little girl
She wanted to look at photos in a picture book
So I dusted off an album and I handed it to her
I wasn’t ready when she said Daddy take a look

Starring back at me was a man I barely knew
Someone from another life from another time
I saw the unhappiness written all over his face
It was easy for me to see sin had been so unkind

Chorus:

Did that man really use to be me?
There’s a little resemblance I can see
He looks so different from what I am today
Jesus really made me brand knew I’ll say
Did that man really use to be me?
I’m a new man and I will forever be
Jesus washed my sins all away
Did that man really use to be me?

Years of doing things my way had taken their toll
The choices I made had left me broken and worn
But now I am a brand new daddy washed in the blood
Since I turned to the man who wore a crown of thorns

Now I stay at home and kiss my little girl goodnight
And I’m there to tuck her in and listen to her pray
She talks of mommy and sissy and then of me
She thanks God for a brand new daddy each day

Bridge

I look down at my little girl asleep in her bed
Not a care not a worry ‘bout daddy in her head

Chorus:

Did that man really use to be me?
There’s a little resemblance I can see
He looks so different from what I am today
Jesus really made me brand knew I’ll say
Did that man really use to be me?
I’m a new man and I will forever be
Jesus washed my sins all away
Did that man really use to be me?

I'm a brand new man and forever will be
Jesus washed my sins all away
Did that man really use to be me?

Wonderful Gregg, we all change in different times of our lives but I suppose a spiritual change is a more profound change,

Thanks for your visit couldn't understand why you hadn't heard of most of the people as most were Americans or people famous in America. Abba was one of the most famous groups out except for The Beatles,
When people live opposite sides of the Atlantic we don't always get to hear the same people,
Lovely of you to drop by, much appreciated.

Thanks for this post. I think we can all look back on what we used to be before the blood of Christ made us free. God's blessings too you. Lloyd

I echo Lloyd's sentiments. Many of us can empathize with such an honest and frank blog post as this.

I shudder when I think of the old me. Beautiful post, well done.
Did you actually write that for real?

Yvonne - thank God we change and we are not what we once were and we aren't even what we will be, but thank God His grace transforms us.

I have discovered since Lee started these music blogs that I am pretty one dimensional when it comes to music. I don't listen to the radio, I only by the music I like which is old, hard core honky tonk country. So not listen to the radio I have never heard for example a song by Abba. I kind of resent a rock band that chose that name. I know, I need to get out more!

Lloyd - your are welcome for that post. Yes, His blood has set us free and His Spirit by His grace transforms us each and every day!

JD Curtis - thanks! I appreciate your comment and your realization of empathy.

LLLLL - Thank you Libby. Yes, I actually wrote that by myself on Saturday. I have writen hundred's of lyrics. Tell ya what, I need someone to put music to these lyrics - want to help out?

Brother Gregg, that was excellent!

I only have one question?
Did you read my personal testimony before you wrote that? Praise be to God that He is still in the life changing business! My 3 grown daughters are forever grateful.
