John MacArthur on the "Purpose Driven LIfe"

The Sunday Sound-Bite...

Gospel Driven Disciples includes a weekly component called  The Sunday Sound-Bite.

These "sound-bites" will be from various men of God commenting on various topics with the goal of provoking a deeper appreciation of our Lord Jesus Christ and to facilitate obedience to the admonition given in II Peter 3:18 – “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Savior Jesus Christ.”

This selection is a synopsis by John MacArthur, Pastor of Grace Community Church, Panorama City, CA., on the so called but vastly deceptive, "Purpose Driven Life."

My Christian Mentor Bill Stiles (now gone to be with the Lord) always said: "You have to know what you have been saved from, before you can understand what you have been saved to." I heard it say also that we may realized the true seriousness of the sinful of sin and just how far we, individually, have fallen in that sin from our just & holy God in order to bring conviction of self to those sins, to see & understand our inability to save ourselves from the penalty for those sins, to repent and truly fell sorry for our sinful thoughts, words and deeds, to reach out out hand with sorrow for our sin and ask for mercy and forgiveness to God, to see and accept Christ the Savior & Redeemer taking our place on that cross to pay the price of our sin, then surrender our self-centered lives to the Lord and accept the free gift of eternal life as a Child of God and start living the rest of our lives (this side of heaven)growing in grace (with the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit that is given to each Believer) and walk with a new heart as a Follower of Jesus in the family of God. Praise be to God! Glory to Jesus!

I am not overly familiar with the concepts of the Purpose Driven Life philosophy, but this brings up some good points. Of course I have heard of Rick Warren, but I don't really know what he teaches. I do become concerned with infighting within and accusations made toward one another within the Christian community. Has John McArthur and Rick Warren tried to come together to directly confront differences and understand the correct Biblical approach. I get frustrated by condemnations of one respected leader against another. It is all fuel for the avid non-believer in my opinion. I think the confusion caused by accusations without a commitment for unification among believers becomes the biggest threat leading to apostasy.

Warren's message is lazy and downright deceptive.

But alas, MacArthur is right on...AGAIN!

"Welcome to the family of God" is often stated by those very people who say we cannot judge anyone. Well, isn't that a judgment right there? So what they really mean is that we can only judge people with warm fuzzy judgments, rather than truth.
Of course, MacArthur is right on with this one.
So, how can we know? Time will tell, as we start to see the fruit of the Spirit manifest in ones life.
