The twenty third Psalm is perhaps the most beloved Psalm of all. It is known by almost all people, whether they be genuine children of God or the children of this world. Many have found and continue to find comfort in this Psalm. It is either read, recited, or sung at most funerals.
It is no secret that this world is full of valleys. As we live and make our way we will encounter all or most of these valleys at one time or another.
What are some of these valleys?
It is no secret that this world is full of valleys. As we live and make our way we will encounter all or most of these valleys at one time or another.
What are some of these valleys?
- Valley of Despair
- Valley of Doubt
- Valley of Defeat
- Valley of Discouragement
- Valley of Death
Of course there may be many more valleys that could be added to this list. How do we walk through them? Some of them can be so devastating to us at times that we are paralyzed. We are made immobile unable to think clearly, respond responsibly, or take appropriate action.
For the believer there is only one course of action. Always be turning to and trusting in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:16, directs us to come before the very throne of grace where we can find help and grace in the time of need. We must always be about turning to God in faith through prayer in order to navigate through these various valleys that we will encounter.
Listen to what our heavenly father says to us: "...even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me." (Psalms 23:4, ESV)
When you turn to Him you will be glad for at least three (3) reasons:
- You are not alone, many fellow believers are in the valley with you. They can give great comfort and courage enabling you to be sustained through their assistance.
- God sustained them through their valleys which gives great assurance He will sustain you in your valley. (Though not always in the manner we desire)
- The valley is only a short portion of our journey and the mountain top awaits for each of us

I like geographical valleys, but would rather not enter the valleys like you've mentioned. I am glad for those reasons you give to turn to God to lead me through the metaphorical valleys. God never fails us even though we often fail Him.
Great message.

Certainly valleys I don't wish to encounter though "The Valley Of Despair " I've frequently been through since the passing of my youngest son two years ago.
It really is good to see you back Greg.
