But then, It Started To Rain

But Then, it Started to Rain
By Gregg Metcalf * 7-9-2020

Noah was just a man who raised a family for God
Sweat ran down his brow as he worked the sod
Not many knew about him, most didn’t know his name
But God took notice of Noah and then it started to rain

Noah, said God, “build me an ark, out of gopher wood
Make it strong and sturdy but make it plenty good
Swing your hammer sing your song loud and plain
No one will believe you,” but then it started to rain

So, Noah went to work and built God his boat
He never questioned whether it would ever float
Noah did what he was told and didn’t complain
days were filled with labor but then, it started to rain

The day Noah’s boat was finished the animals appeared
Two by two, male and female they were divinely steered
Present were all the animals that Adam had given name
No clue why they were there, but then it started to rain

Noah and his wife, with his sons and their wives too
Went in after the animals under a sky clear and blue
God shut the door of Noah’s boat just the same
Not a cloud in the sky, but then it started to rain

When the little family went in and the door was shut
The crowd that watched walked away with a strut
Not a worry nor care since everything was the same
No hint of trouble had they, but then it started to rain

Water from the sky, water from the deep parts of earth
No one had seen anything like this since their birth
Fear gave way to panic people cried, “this is insane”
No one listened to Noah, but then it started to rain

Safe and sound Noah’s little boat floated away
Not a single soul had imagined a judgment day
God had grown tired and no longer did refrain
Patient 120 years but then it started to rain

Woe to those who call good evil and evil good
Woe to those whose love of sin is their food
Dark for light and light for dark is insane
Bitter for sweet, but one day, it will start to rain
