L is for Labeorphily

First, let me state, I do not remember how I stumbled across this word.

Second, ever since my 8th grade teacher, required us to learn, define, use, and memorize 10 new vocabulary words per week, I have enjoyed building or adding to my vocabulary.

Third, I have certainly enjoyed learning this word and can't wait to work it into a sentence.

Fourth, Hmmm, I wonder how can this be used as a sermon illustration?

Fifth, this post was written in the early part of March, I have grown more nervous about using it ever since. Let's see if I let it post. First,I liked the ending of the word (phily), second, I liked learning a new word I had never heard of, and third, I was amazed learning that there is an actual word for an actual hobby. I just thought people pealed labels off of bottles because they wanted to show off their nails or because they were bord.

labeorphily

the collecting of beer bottle labels. — labeorphile, n.

No sermon? Nothing to correlate peeling off the old label to expose a bare bottle in need of covering? ;o)

Great word and excellent 'L' post! Thanks for sharing. I had no idea this was a hobby either. Happy Thursday! :o)

I've never heard of the word either but when I read on and found it meant the collection of beer mats/lables I wouldn't have known about it any way as I don't drink, but it's a new word I've learnt today so all's not in vain.

This is really cool! I'd never heard of labeorphily before. Even my spell check underlined it in red, so there you go. You have an awesome vocabulary.

I thought I knew all the words in the dictionary. So let me get this straight. These labeorphile peeps have this as a hobby? And Gregg. I was reading along expecting something Jesus might have said about drinking. "But wisdom is shown to be right by what results from it." Of course, I don't believe it says anything in the Bible about collecting beer bottle labels. *wink*

I love your posts. I love your blog
too. *smile*

I guess there is a word for just about everything. When I was in college I used to collect candy wrappers. Then later when I was on the road and staying in hotels I used to collect soap and toilet paper--it's amazing how many different brands of toilet paper there are.
I still have some of those candy wrappers, but I eventually used up all the soap and toilet paper out of practicality.

LOL I tried to guess what the word might mean, but boy, was I ever way off! I also love learning new words, also due to a teacher (8th grade). Thanks to her, I work to learn new words on a regular basis (I keep a file box), and I can still recite 72 prepositions in alphabetical order. :)
