Chorus:
There's no need for a line
you can find Him everywhere
His blood is the tie that bind
all those for whom He cares
Chorus:
To see Jesus the babe
To those whom he saves
He is not a display
He may show Himself today

I wasn't familiar with the original song, so I just listened to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. There's no need for a line.
Wonderful Gregg, I agree no need for a line to see Jesus.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
Yvonne.
Agreed, but I still like the point of the original. With all the emphasis on Santa, aren't you glad at least a few folks recognize there is something wrong if we're not looking for Christ?
ReplyDeleteHope you all had a blessed Christmas!
I think most people "like the point original" because the tune or melody is great, the sentiment is sappy, a little boy supposedly inspired the song, and because Jesus seems to loose "top billing" to "Santa Clause." I get this and am not oblivious to this.
ReplyDeleteHowever, to ask the second portion of the question ("...aren't you glad a few folks recognize there is something wrong...} is proof that my point was missed.
You and I are both brothers in Christ and great friends, so let me attempt to answer your question:
1. I am not sure who the little four year old thought should be in a line to see Jesus. If he meant the world or the lost; they would only line up if there were miracles, meat, multitudes, or ministry that benefited them. The crowds show this in the gospel. If he meant believers, well, sure it would be nice if believers worshiped Christ rather than themselves.
2. As usual the song oozes ego-centricity. It emphasizes that gifts come from Santa, and Christ gives his life. Santa? Who is he and why does he get the credit for the grace God extends in providing us with all that we have.
3. If we are going to sing theology, why don't we sing biblically accurate theology?
Gregg, I'm not disagreeing at all. Most music, even much of what we sing in the church these days, is theologically vapid. I was just remarking that in this world where most kids that age don't even know Christmas is about anything BUT Santa, it's refreshing that somewhere out there parents have taught children that if we're not talking about Jesus, something is missing. Just looking for a bright spot. I agree with all the rest. My wife often accuses me of being too negative, so I'm working at looking for the positive!
