My Summer’s Reading List – June 21 – September 23, 2011

Do you remember this post from Friday, July 1st, 2011? This list represented my summer's reading list.Summer here in the Northwest officially ran from June 21 through September 23, 2011. Sad, to say, today is September 23 - the official day marking the end of the summer of 2011. I had slated to read the following:

  
1.  The Incredible Christian - A. W. Tozer

2. The Pursuit of God - A. W. Tozer

3.  A Hunger for God - John Piper

4.  God's Passion for His Glory - John Piper

5.   Charity and its Fruits - Jonathan Edwards

6.  John MacArthur: Servant of the Word and Flock - Ian Murray

7.  Life of Charles Hodges - A. A. Hodges

8.  The Old Evangelicalism: Old Truths for a new Awakening - Ian Murray

9.  Concerning the True Care of Souls - Martin Bucer

I must report that I did not get to the first five books that I had slated to read this summer. However, I am happy to report to you that I was able to read some pretty outstanding books this summer and I heartily recommend them to you. Yes, to say the least there are some on this list that would involve some "heavy-lifting". I think, however, they are more than worth it. I was able to complete:

1.  Heroes - Iain Murray

2. Christ Formed In You - Brian Hedges

3.  The Old Evangelicalism - Iain Murray

4.  John MacArthur: Servant of the Word and Flock - Iain Murray

5.   Concerning the True Care of Souls - Martin Bucer

6.  The Treasure Principle - Randy Alcorn

7.  The Next Christian - Gabe Lyons (Not such a great book)

8.  The Life of Charles Hodges - A. A. Hodges

9.  Slave - John MacArthur

Hopefully you will pick some of these books up and dig into them yourselves as part of your fall reading list. If you don't I think they would make some good winter reading. Pick four from this list, buy a great fine point pen, and a small book/bible size notebook.

• Underline key and pertinent thoughts and statements that you want to remember. Interact with the text -  ask questions, record observations, make comments in the margins of the pages of the book.

• Make notes in a small notebook of truths, thoughts, and points that you want to retain. Go back to this notebook frequently and review the salient points of the book that you read.

• Share with others what you have read
